Rob Rodell: Bio

Best described as Josh Groban meets Madonna, the music style of Rob Rodell fuses contemporary classical with dance, rock and a shot of Afro-Pop in the world music genre. Whether defined as "popera" or "rockera," the music ably displays Rob's ability as a powerful vocalist with what experts in the music industry refer to as "an impressive vocal range." Aside from the launch of his debut album with collaborator Tzipora of Namwaaka, Rob is also working on releasing his debut solo effort. Listeners who enjoy the likes of Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Elton John, Freddie Mercury, Marc Anthony, Mika and Rick Astley may find a chord that strikes a resonant note with them when listening to Rob, who has been compared in style and vocal range to these artists, having been classically trained as some of them were.

Rodell began singing at the age of 3 and began formal music training at the age of 9, at which time he also made his debut on the musical stage. By 11, he had recorded for the first time in a studio, by age 13 he had made his first appearance on TV, and by age 16 he was performing professionally and being paid for gigs on a regular basis. Rob has had almost 30 years of formal musical and singing training and has performed in musical theatre on stage, on the small screen, and in a contemporary music setting. Rob and singer-songwriter partner Tzipora were placed in the top 20 in the Hansa Pilsener Songwriting Competition and won the Top Billing/Momentum Lifestyle Award in the music category in 2006, beating out South African Music Award winners Goldfish and Moreira, and top Cape Town band Coda. In addition, Rob holds a Diploma in singing and a Certificate in music marketing and management. In 2009, he became the first person in the world to do his Licentiate in singing through Rockschool, the only accredited board that does music exams for rock and pop music, which he passed with distinction. He is also currently doing his D Litt et Phil degree on the music industry, while actively continuing his journey as a singer-songwriter and a performing artist. One of his immediate goals is to study at the famed Berklee College of Music, reputedly one of the best music schools in the world.
