Curtains & Cameras, Act III: Songs of Stage & Screen

Rob Rodell

This is a collection of songs from stage and screen that I simply love to sing. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed (and still enjoy) singing them! Thank you.

My musical journey thus far has been like a metaphor for life: up and down, happy and sad, difficult and easy, fun and not-so-fun, rewarding and unfulfilling, all at the same time. I've lived through a couple of orbits around the sun now, and life is a great teacher.

If I could do it all again, I would, and I would make sure that music was always there, from the beginning, right through to the end.

This album is simply a collection of songs that I love singing, because they bring out the best in my voice, and because they are just so beautifully written. Well, that's my opinion anyway...

What of the future? I have no intention of stopping now. For me, music has always been an integral part of my life's work. I pray that it will always remain so.

I hope that as you listen, you will enjoy this album as much as I have enjoyed creating it for you.

I am always grateful to God that I am able to live my musical dream. Musica, grata Deo.

This album is dedicated to the great Norwegian designer Negruj Soor, whom I love with all my heart.

This Is My Telos

Rob Rodell

A spiritual album, with music to feed the soul, that will appeal to fans of Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman.

As I grow in my music career, so my music takes on a new depth. It's so true that life's challenges provide a beautiful canvas and backdrop for the creation of music. This has probably been my most personal and most spiritual album to date. The content of the songs is designed to serve the world, with an encouraging message to hold on to life, celebrate it, be grateful for it, love it, cherish it (and those around you), and never give up on your dreams. May you be inspired to live life to the fullest when you listen to the songs. Musica, grata Deo.

House Broken

Rob Rodell

The much-anticipated debut House album of singer-songwriter Rob Rodell, who through his association with Soul Candi has been able to work with some really talented producers and DJs to create a mixed bag of commercial, deep and tribal House.

Working with up-and-coming DJs such as Shimza and Cuebur, Rob Rodell has been able to combine his classical background with the best beats that House music has to offer, from commercial to deep house to electric to tribal and then onto Durban-style House with a distinct African flavour. This album combines 12 tracks from Rob's association with brilliantly talented DJs, singer-songwriters, producers and Soul Candi students, and includes a Hip Hop track. Contributors to the album include DJs Cuebur, Bo Vel Doir, MKG Beatz and Ace-G, producers Mark Watson and phatkid_muzik, Hip Hop artist Avi G of Govenderz Empire, songwriter Tzipora, and Hip Hop artist Obita as the "Voice of God." If you like Swedish House Mafia, Avicii or David Guetta, this album will appeal to you.

Curtains & Cameras, Act II: Songs of Stage & Screen

Rob Rodell

The follow-up album to Act I. If you love show tunes, be they on TV, at the movies, or in the theater, then this may just be the album for you!

I love watching a good movie or DVD, because for me it offers the ultimate escapism. This year (2012) I was privileged enough to hone my craft by taking some drama lessons, which included a stint on TV. So it is an absolute pleasure to introduce you to ten songs for Curtains & Cameras Act II, with another helping of songs that have adorned the silver screen, the little screen, or the red curtains of the theater. I am very, very proud that four of them are originals, to be included in a future musical that I am slowly putting together, in between my album releases.

This album also includes remakes of two songs that I adore: "Oh What A Night (December 1963)" and "Don't Rain On My Parade," both quite different from the originals. Love them or hate them, these are songs that I thoroughly enjoy singing, and the latter helped me pass my licentiate in singing back in 2009 with distinction.

The voice is raw and rough on these songs, far from the polished albums of some of my other work, which lends a totally different color to the album - and it is mostly comprised of upbeat songs. I hope that you will enjoy my interpretation of the songs, which include "Why Do Fools Fall In Love," such a catchy track from the 50's originally, and "I Can See Clearly Now," a great song for the soul if things are looking a little gloomy and glum.

Thank you for taking this journey with me. As always, Musica, grata Deo.

This album is dedicated to the great Norwegian designer Negrüj Soor, whom I love and love and love, from time immemorial, to time unending, no matter our fates...

A Cappella Christmas, Vol. 2

Rob Rodell

The beautiful follow-up to the critically acclaimed A Cappella Christmas, Vol. 1. If you love Christmas carols, you will adore this album - a must-have for every homely Christmas party with family and friends.

This album saw the combination of hand bell ringing with vocal harmony, creating a beautiful remake of some old classic Christmas tunes. It lends a gorgeous tone to the carols, which range from four- to ten-part harmonies. Much thanks to the Whitechapel Ringers, a hand bell ringing group based in Johannesburg, who did such an amazing job of ringing the bells - it sounds so pretty! Merry Christmas everyone, and the happiest of New Years to you all.

Curtains & Cameras, Act I: Songs of Stage & Screen

Rob Rodell

Whether it's a favourite movie, TV show or musical, there is something here for everyone when it comes to show tunes and songs of musical theatre. With one new track and nine covers, this album is perfect with a glass of wine for a chilled evening.

This album was a labour of love. With my background in musical theatre and with classical training, I am reminded of the words of Howard Massey, author of the excellent books "Behind the Glass," which detail how some of the world's biggest hits were made, from the music producer's perspective. In the second volume he refers to "singers that blend classic sensibilities with current sounds" - that's me. Having performed on stage since a very young age, I have always enjoyed show tunes. Act I is my first ode to the tunes that people have been whistling and humming along to for decades. Even though it is always easy to put such an album together, it is more difficult to sing the songs and do them justice. I hope that they resonate with you, and that they serve your emotional and entertainment needs. Enjoy! This album is dedicated to the great Norwegian fashion designer Negruj Soor, whom I love with all my heart.

Finding My Own Voice

Rob Rodell

An easy-listening mix of adult contemporary songs for the intellectual mind...

If you're under 30 with an IQ lower than 120, you'll hate this album. No, this is thinking man's music, an eclectic mix of songs designed for people who have been schooled in the tempests of life and have lived to tell the tale.

Adult contemporary fare at its best, Rob Rodell combines the sounds of Elton John and Josh Groban on this album. Listeners who enjoy Sting, Rick Astley, Roy Orbison and Celine Dion might also take to Finding My Own Voice.
